The New Orleans Saints have some huge decisions to make, none of which are more crucial than their current quandary at the quarterback position. Head coach Sean Payton made comments Thursday that highlight this issue.
Drew Brees, Teddy Bridgewater and Taysom Hill are all hitting free agency this offseason. Brees doesn’t see how his team can bring all three of them back.
“To have all three of those guys back is probably very unlikely,” Payton said Thursday on Super Bowl Live. “You really appreciate the season you had when you had all three of them.”
So, who’s the odd man out?
Logic dictates it’s probably Teddy Bridgewater, who deserves a second chance to start for a franchise but probably would not get it in New Olreans.
Brees is all but certainly going to come back, and nobody will be surprised if he does a team-friendly deal to help the Saints reload in free agency.
Hill is a player Payton likes very much, and it’s rumored that the dual-threat marvel has a starting job lined up for him in New Orleans whenever Brees is out of the picture.
It’s going to be fascinating to see what the Saints do, and then what the rest of the league does in response to whomever is left on the outside looking in.
