Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Tuesday that safety Jamal Adams suffered a “serious” knee injury that will require surgery.
Carroll gave the update on his radio show on Seattle Sports, KIRO 710 AM.
Carroll said that Adams will “need some work” done on his knee. He told reporters after Monday night’s game that Adams tore his left quad tendon.
“I know it’s serious and it just breaks your heart,” Carroll said Tuesday. “We’re going to miss him so much. … It’s really tough.”
Carroll didn’t give a timeframe but it’s expected that Adams’ season is over.
Adams limped off the field in the second quarter of Seattle’s win over the Denver Broncos and spent time in the medical tent before being carted to the locker room. He made three tackles and broke up a pass prior to his departure.
Josh Jones took over at safety for Seattle.
After three seasons with the New York Jets, the 26-year-old Adams is in his second season with the Seahawks. Seattle sent the Jets four first-round picks to acquire Adams in 2020. They signed him to a four-year, $70.58 million extension in August 2021.
Entering Monday, Adams had played in 70 career games, all starts, amassing 443 tackles. He’s also made four interceptions and has forced seven fumbles.
