Seahawks issue statement after making Richard Sherman release official

The Seattle Seahawks have now officially released future Hall of Fame cornerback Richard Sherman. Reports earlier on Friday suggested that Seattle had informed Sherman he was going to be released.

The team has now made an official statement following the move. And in reality, it’s about the most heartfelt goodbye note we’ve ever seen from an NFL team.

“Thank for helping win championships, shape our culture and define success in Seattle,” the statement read. “We love you and your unwavering competitiveness, confidence and fierce passion for football and life. For that, you will always be a Hawk.”

During his seven seasons with Seattle, Sherman earned five Pro Bowl nods and was named a First-Team All-Pro three times. He helped the Seahawks to two NFC Championships and a Lombardi Trophy during that span.

While Seattle has left open the possibility of bringing Sherman back at a lower cost, this statement reads as if the divorce is final.

Sherman is now a free agent and should draw some solid interest on the open market.
