After a New York Giants legend made a surprising comment in jest after Saquon Barkley chose to sign with rivals the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency, the former Big Blue star fired back in a major way on X.

While it was always a strong possibility that Saquon Barkley would take his talents elsewhere in free agency this year, few expected him to bring them to one of the team’s greatest rivals. On the first day of legal tampering, the Eagles and the two-time Pro Bowler agreed to a massive three-year deal with incentives that make him one of the highest-paid running backs in the league.

Unsurprisingly, the move sent shockwaves through the New York fanbase and garnered some strong reactions. Including from franchise great Tiki Barber, who co-hosts an afternoon radio show on popular station WFAN. During a Monday broadcast, the three-time Pro Bowler jokingly said, “He’s dead to us now. You’re dead to us, Saquon. Good luck, you’re dead to me.”

Well, that comment received a very strong response from the new Eagles back on X, formerly Twitter, where he claimed Barber was a “hater” of his talents since he was drafted by the team in 2018.

“[Tiki Barber] lol, yup you’re the prime example of loyalty to a team. I got the deal I wanted, secured more gm which wasn’t given to me before,” Barkley said. “So if fans are gonna hate me for that so be it! But I never turned my back on my teammates and always had theirs. You been a hater since I got to New York and all the ‘Dead to me’ talk don’t smile in my face when you see me.”

Barber has since said his comments were completely a joke and not meant to be taken seriously, but the former New York Giants star clearly did not take it that way.
