Santonio Holmes is Baffled that he is not with an NFL Team

All remains quiet on the Santonio Holmes front. As other receivers are being signed up by new teams, the former Pittsburgh Steelers first-round pick has not drawn any interest on the open market.

The former Super Bowl MVP had this to say in an interview with Sports Illustrated this week.

It baffles me a little to know that I’m not a part of any organization. It is a gift and a curse at the same time. And I say that because the gift of playing and the opportunity to be a figure in the National Football League. I enjoyed my time. And the curse of having one injury in my entire career that people are now looking at me as if Santonio Holmes is not the guy anymore.

And I think the opportunity just has to come, and the better situation for me and we will see.

Holmes has not been on an NFL football field since last November after a brief stint with the Chicago Bears saw him manage eight receptions for 67 yards in nine games.

Unfortunately for Holmes, he really has not been the same since he suffered a Lisfranc fracture early in the 2012 season that required two surgeries and months of rehabilitation.

It appears that Holmes, 31, may be done. Other more accomplished veterans still finds themselves on the open market nearly two weeks into free agency. And while Holmes has a history of producing at a relatively high level, that history is far gone.
