The San Diego Padres have tabbed Pat Murphy to replace recently fired manager Bud Black at the helm of the team, according to Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Murphy, 56, has been in the Padres organization for six years, starting out as a Special Assistant to Baseball Operations. He coached multiple a few minor-league affiliates, most notably the Triple-A Tuscon Padres—who are now the El Paso Chihuahuas.
San Diego acquired top-flight talent in Matt Kemp, Justin Upton and Wil Myers during the offseason, but the team’s now-32-34 record doesn’t match its potential. The Padres are currently six games back of the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers.
Murphy takes over for Dave Roberts, who stepped in for one game after Black’s firing.
