Sam Darnold is in the recovery stage of his bout with mononucleosis, but he’ll still remain out of commission for the foreseeable future.

Olivia Landis of the team’s website shared Monday that Darnold is still dealing with an enlarged spleen and will revisit with doctors next Monday.

There’s been a lot of talk that Darnold could return to the New York Jets in time for the team’s Week 5 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. New York has a bye in Week 4.

However, we know that the Jets won’t play Darnold unless his spleen is completely back to normal. If it’s enlarged at all, there is a risk he could rupture his spleen with any hit to that area of his body.

If Darnold is unable to play in Week 5, then it’s going to fall once again to Luke Falk to lead the offense. He was a miserable wreck on Sunday against the New England Patriots as the Jets fell to 0-3 on the season.
