Sam Darnold practices fully, Todd Bowles won’t name starter

New York Jets fans are eager to see rookie quarterback Sam Darnold back on the field, but head coach Todd Bowles isn’t rushing to name a starter.

Despite full practice participation from Darnold, Bowles declined to say whether the youngster would open the Week 14 clash with the Buffalo Bills, according to Brian Costello of the New York Post.

Bowles’ non-answer comes a day after Darnold himself said he feels physically ready to return and, left up to him, would play Sunday.

Perhaps the medical staff needs to give a final clearance on Darnold and his foot injury. Hopefully that’s the case, because Bowles otherwise is doing no one any favors.

In Darnold’s absence, the Jets have relied on veteran Josh McCown. He’s mustered just 539 yards with one touchdowns to four interceptions in three losses.

If Darnold is healthy, there’s no point in trotting out McCown again.
