The Washington Nationals and first baseman Ryan Zimmerman agreed to a one-year, $1 million deal, according to multiple reports on Friday.
The 36-year-old Zimmerman opted not to play in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
A long-tenured veteran who’s spent all 15 of his major league seasons with the Nationals, Zimmerman has a .279 average with 270 homers and 1,015 RBIs in 1,689 career games.
In 2019, Zimmerman batted .257 with six homers and 27 RBIs in 52 games in 2019, the season the Nationals defeated the Houston Astros in the World Series. He posted a .208 average (5-for-24) with a homer and two RBIs in the World Series.
Zimmerman established career highs of 36 homers and 108 RBIs in 2017.
The two-time All-Star was the fourth overall selection of the 2005 draft.
