Ryan Gauld had two goals and Brian White and Sergio Cordova also scored to lead the Vancouver Whitecaps to a 4-2 victory over the visiting LA Galaxy on Saturday.

Ryan Raposo had an assist for the Whitecaps (8-7-7, 31 points), who scored three times in the first 23 minutes to win their second straight match after dropping the previous two.

Gaston Brugman and Mark Delgado scored for the Galaxy (5-10-7, 22 points), who were forced to play a man down after defender Chris Mavinga picked up his second yellow card in the 22nd minute.

Los Angeles, which scored both of its goals while playing with 10 men, saw its seven-match (3-0-4) undefeated streak in MLS play come to an end.

The Whitecaps took the lead in the second minute. Raposo curled a cross from just outside the penalty box into the goalmouth, where White headed it past diving goalie Jonathan Bond for his team-high eighth goal of the season.

Vancouver struck again eight minutes later. Julian Gressel centered a pass into the box that Mavinga deflected to Gauld, who blasted it into the upper-left corner of the goal from just a few feet away.

Gauld nearly made it 3-0 in the 13th minute when he hit the crossbar, with Alessandro Schopf’s rebound attempt also caroming off the crossbar and into play.

Mavinga, who had picked up a yellow card in the ninth minute, was given another in the 22nd minute for taking down White in the penalty box while trying to stop White’s breakaway.

Gauld’s penalty kick made it 3-0 in the 23rd minute.

Los Angeles pulled to within 3-1 in the 61st minute when Riqui Puig lofted a corner kick to the top of the penalty box to Brugman, who volleyed it into the back of the net.

Delgado made it 3-2 when he took a pass from Preston Judd and drove it in between goalie Yohei Takaoka’s legs in the 74th minute.

Cordova put the game away in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Takaoka made four saves, while Bond had five.

The Whitecaps, who possessed the ball for 51.7 percent of the game, put nine of their 17 shots on target.

The Galaxy put six of their 12 attempts on frame.
