Kansas City Royals outfielder Alex Gordon was headed to the All-Star Game. But after an unfortunate injury on Wednesday night, the disabled list is the only place the left fielder is going.
In the top of the fourth inning against the Tampa Bay Rays, Gordon fell awkwardly while chasing down a ball Logan Forsythe smacked near the wall.

Initially, Gordon’s injury appeared like a potential season-ender, perhaps an ankle or—the absolute worst-case scenario—a torn ACL. He exited the game and was carted off the field.
However, the Royals announced Gordon sustained a strained groin muscle. The 31-year-old was placed on the 15-day DL, but Gordon is expected to miss eight weeks, per Andy McCullough of The Kansas City Star.
After receiving the third-most votes for an outfielder, Gordon would’ve been a starter in the All-Star Game.
Gordon has appeared in 78 games, batting .279 with 11 home runs and 39 RBI.
