The Colorado Rockies entered the season with high hopes for starting pitcher Jon Gray. Now just over three months after me made the start on Opening Day, he is headed down to the minors.

For the 25-year-old righty, his 2018 season started off poorly on Opening Day. He allowed three runs in four innings on March 29 and in his most recent start on June 28, Gray allowed five runs in four innings.
Now he’ll head to Triple-Albuquerque with the hopes of turning things around on the mound. If he wants to make it back into the majors, Gray will need to greatly cut down on the numbers of base runners he allowed.
In 92 innings this season, he allowed 108 hits, 29 walks and 11 home runs with a 5.77 ERA and 1.49 WHIP.
Now as he works his way back, Colorado must decide if it devotes assets in its farm system to upgrade the rotation and compete or to kiss any hope of contending this season goodbye.
