Early in Sunday’s game between the Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers, Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano was forced to exit the contest after being hit in the hand.

At the time of the incident, it sure looked and sounded like Cano’s injury was significant.

Not long afterward, X-rays determined that Cano suffered a fractured fifth metacarpal bone in his right hand.

Cano has been solid for Seattle this year, batting .289 with four home runs, 23 RBI and 24 runs scored. If he’s forced to miss significant time, then the Mariners will certainly have a tough time replacing his production.
