Robert Kraft compares Brandin Cooks to Randy Moss

Brandin Cooks

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft made an interesting comparison Monday when discussing new receiver Brandin Cooks.

He compared him to NFL legend Randy Moss.

“I know bringing this young man from New Orleans [Brandin Cooks], I don’t know since I’ve owned the team the only player that could make an impact like that at wide receiver was Randy Moss,” Kraft said, per Mark Daniels of the Providence Journal. He doesn’t have his height, but it looks like he has his speed. I think that’s complimentary to what we have on the team and I’m excited about him joining us.”

If anyone cares to remember, Moss’ time in New England produced a season for the record books. Back in 2007, he hauled in 98 passes for 1,493 yards and an NFL-record 23 touchdowns.

Cooks hasn’t had quite that kind of impact during his short three-year career but has shown quite the spark. The past two years in particular, he’s proved himself capable of producing prodigious numbers playing with Drew Brees, catching 162 passes for 2,311 yards and 17 touchdowns.

His quickness off the line of scrimmage and long speed are definitely top flight (watch here and watch here). Whether he lives up to Kraft’s expectations and helps propel New England’s offense to great heights, like Moss did, remains to be seen.
