Free agent Pro Bowl guard Richie Incogntio finds himself in the news for all the wrong reasons.
In what has been a past calendar year defined by Incognito’s presence on police blotters, the latest incident has Incognito facing multiple charges after an alleged incident at a funeral home.
Incognito was arrested this past summer in San Diego after allegedly threatening to shoot up a funeral home where his father’s body was being held. The details of the incident are about as troubling as it gets.
In talking about said incident, Incognito is apologizing to his fans while maintaining his innocence.
“I just want to apologize to all my fans, and the people of the Bills Mafia, the Rams, the Dolphins, the University of Nebraska, all these people that have supported me. I let em down,” Incognito said on Pat McAfee’s podcast. ” I am not guilty. And you know the court process will play itself out. But I feel like I let everybody down. I lost my cool with my father passing. And I feel confident that I will be vindicated in the court process or whatever the heck we’re in right now.”
Incognito is admitting to losing his cool while denying the damning allegations. That’s a step in the right direction for a man that had previously been put on a psychiatric hold relating to another incident.
Incognito, 35, has shown interest in returning to the NFL after being released by the Buffalo Bills. A reported flirtation by the Minnesota Vikings recently ended in even more drama.
It’s not yet known whether the Pro Bowl guard will ever return to the NFL gridiron. But it’s now all about him getting his house in order off the field. That’s for sure.
