Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman has never been shy about speaking his mind and inviting controversy via social media.
This recent tweet from Sherman didn’t ruffle many feathers, especially from around the football world:
I’m more convinced than ever that NO athletes have to be more mentally prepared than football players. Back me up 12’s!
— Richard Sherman (@RSherman_25) June 12, 2015
In fact, Sherman may have drawn the support of some players who would concur with his statement. However, one person of note did not take kindly to Sherman’s blanket statement. NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. had this to say in response:
Sure about that @RSherman_25? 43 racecar drivers at 200mph inches from each other takes it to a whole new level. https://t.co/uUBCRf5gmV

Earnhardt’s tweet even ignited future NFL Hall of Famer Randy Moss to get involved:
@DaleJr @RSherman_25 where's sports science when u need it!

Let the debate begin. NASCAR is a considered a sport like the NFL, but whether the person manning the car should be labeled as an “athlete” or a driver definitely opens the door for a multitude of mixed opinions.
