Rex Ryan calls Kellen Moore a ‘little bitty dude’

Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan isn’t afraid to speak the truth, though political — or NFL — correctness isn’t quite his forte.

Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News notes Ryan called Dallas Cowboys quarterback Kellen Moore “a little bitty dude” before extending some praise for the left-hander who beat Buffalo 17-10 during the preseason.

“I saw him in preseason and he torched us. First thing that jumps out at you, he’s a little bitty dude. You’re expecting these big 6-5 dudes and here’s a guy that’s 6-foot. Then he’s throwing with the wrong hand. But he’s accurate. He’s poised. And obviously the numbers he put up in college speak to that as well. He’s a smart guy. That’s kind of what jumps out at you.”

Ryan might cause a few eye-rolls with the comments on Moore’s stature, but it’s not like the words are wrong. Compared to other NFL starting quarterbacks, Moore is a little bitty dude.

Listed at an even six feet and 200 pounds, the Boise State product has spent four seasons as a backup in the league. Moore went undrafted in 2012 but caught on with the Detroit Lions prior to his current Cowboys stint.

The 26-year-old logged his first career regular-season appearance last week, entering after Matt Cassel threw perhaps the worst interception of the year. Moore completed 15-of-25 passes for 150 yards, one touchdown and three picks during the team’s 19-16 loss to the New York Jets.

Moore will attempt to record his first NFL victory when Ryan and the Bills host the little bitty dude and the Cowboys in Week 16.
