Reuben Foster released from jail after posting $75K bond, NFL gathering information

49ers linebacker Reuben Foster is one of the biggest NFL preseason winners of 2017

Reuben Foster was arrested on Sunday and booked into Santa Clara County Jail on charges of domestic violence, threats and possession of an assault weapon. He has since been released after posting $75,000 bail.

It was the second arrest for Foster in less than two months, his previous arrest coming during a stay in Alabama in January when he was charged with marijuana possession.

Sunday’s arrest went down “without incident,” according to the Los Gatos Police Department, per Matt Maiocco of NBC Bay Area. Police were responding “in regards to a welfare check and possible disturbance call for service.” The incident is still being investigated, per the police.

Both the NFL and the San Francisco 49ers are gathering information on this latest arrest, per Maiocco. The NFL now has a mandatory six-game suspension in place for first-time domestic violence offenders, so that’s most definitely in play here for the second-year linebacker.

The 49ers also have to be very concerned about the pattern of off-field issues exhibited by their star defender. He tested positive for dilute sample at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine before getting kicked out of the combine for fighting with a hospital worker. Due to that dilute sample, he was put into the NFL’s drug program, and his January arrest only complicates matters there.

General manager John Lynch recently had some strong words about Foster needing to stay clean and grow up. This latest arrest is exactly the opposite of what the 49ers needed to see from the Alabama product, whose NFL career now hangs in the balance.
