The NBA is still a few weeks away from its self-imposed deadline to make a decision about whether to resume the 2019-20 season.
We’ve seen multiple notes indicating that those within the league are confident the season will be able to resume some time in July.
We’re now getting more details. According to Marc Stein of the NY Times, the NBA is telling teams to prepare for training camp inside their own facilities before making plans to restart the season in Las Vegas and/or Orlando.
The “bubble city” aspect to this is by now well known. What we did not know is how training camps around the league might look. Some teams have already opened their facilities with social distancing and other safety protocols in place to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Other reports suggest that Walt Disney World in Florida and the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada are two of the likeliest destinations to restart the season.
That’s still ways down the line. Multiple people around the NBA believe that players and teams will need three weeks or so of training before jumping back in to the season.
Based on this most-recent piece of information, it sure looks like the Association is forging ahead with a plan to continue the season in some form.
