Texas quarterback Hudson Card, once the starter for the Longhorns, is entering the transfer portal, multiple outlets reported Tuesday.

A top recruit in the 2020 class, Card has three years of eligibility left.

Card was the starting quarterback at Texas at the beginning of the 2021 season before relinquishing the job to Casey Thompson, who transferred to Nebraska following the season. In summer camp before the 2022 campaign, he lost the contest for starting QB to Quinn Ewers.

Card, a redshirt sophomore, threw for 590 yards and five touchdowns in seven games in 2021. He played in all 12 games in 2022, completing 69.4 percent of his passes for 928 yards with six touchdowns and one interception.

The 247Sports composite ranked Card as the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback in the Class of 2020. He played his high school football in Lake Travis, Texas.

Card likely will be a top quarterback in the transfer portal, but in 2023, he probably would have found himself odd-man out at Texas. Ewers has one more season before he is eligible for the NFL draft, and coach Steve Sarkisian has a commitment form Arch Manning, the No. 1 player in the 247Sports composite 2023 class rankings.

Arch is the nephew of Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning.

Texas finished the regular season at 8-4 (6-3 Big 12) and is waiting to learn its bowl destination.
