Reports: Pirates agree with hurlers Vince Velasquez, Jarlin Garcia

The Pittsburgh Pirates have reached one-year deals with free agent pitchers Vince Velasquez and Jarlin Garcia, multiple outlets reported Tuesday.

The deals are pending physicals.

Velasquez’s deal is worth $3.15 million while Garcia’s is for $2.5 million, per the reports. Garcia’s deal has a club option for 2024 worth $3.25 million.

Garcia, 29, went 1-4 with a 3.74 ERA in 58 appearances with the San Francisco Giants last season. The left-hander is 17-15 lifetime with a 3.61 ERA in 285 games (seven starts) with Miami (2017-19) and the Giants.

Velasquez, 30, went 3-3 with a 4.78 ERA in 27 games (nine starts) for the White Sox in 2021, the right-hander’s first season in Chicago. He’s 34-47 lifetime with a 4.93 ERA in 183 games (136 starts) for four teams, most notably the Philadelphia Phillies (2016-21).
