Nate Diaz will face Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 279 on Sept. 10 in Las Vegas, multiple reports said Tuesday.

The welterweight bout is planned to go five rounds and serve as the main event.

Diaz, 37, has not fought since June 2021. He has said he wants to leave UFC at the end of his contract, and according to reports, UFC 279 will be the last fight on his deal with the promotion.

Diaz (20-13 MMA, 18-12 UFC) has not won a UFC bout since a unanimous decision over Anthony Pettis at UFC 241 in August 2019.

A fan favorite despite his middling record, Diaz will battle an undefeated 28-year-old in Chimaev (11-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC). The Russian-born Swede most recently appeared at UFC 273 in April, where he defeated Gilbert Burns by unanimous decision.

“I am going to handle Nate Diaz’s funeral with the UFC,” Chimaev told ESPN in a statement.
