Walter Clayton Jr., who won MAAC Player of the Year honors at Iona this season, entered the transfer portal on Tuesday, multiple reports said.
Clayton’s move comes one day after St. John’s hired coach Rick Pitino away from Iona.
Clayton became just the third sophomore to ever win MAAC Player of the Year. In 32 games (31 starts), he averaged 16.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.8 steals per game. He shot 43.1 percent from the 3-point arc and 95.3 percent from the foul line.
Clayton had 15 points, four boards and four assists in the 13th-seeded Gaels’ first-round NCAA Tournament loss to fourth-seeded UConn.
