Chicago Cubs left-hander Wade Miley will open the season on the injured list with a sore elbow, multiple outlets reported Friday.

The Cubs acquired the veteran starter on Nov. 5 off waivers from the Cincinnati Reds, who declined to exercise his $10 million contract option.

Miley has not pitched this spring due to soreness in his left elbow. An MRI revealed inflammation, and he will be shut down for at least 10 days with a potential return in mid-May, per the reports.

Miley, 35, was 12-7 with a 3.37 ERA in 28 starts for the Reds in 2021, striking out 125 batters in 163 innings.

Over 11 seasons, he owns a 97-92 record with a 4.15 ERA in 283 games (277 starts) with seven teams. He was an All-Star with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2012.
