Report: Zion Williamson avoids major knee injury but will miss ‘period of weeks’ to open season

New Orleans Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson has avoided a catastrophic knee injury but is expected to miss weeks to open the 2019-20 season, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The ESPN insider shared that the “Pels are clearly treating injury with an abundance of caution but there’s no shortage of confidence on full recovery.”

This is both a good news/bad news situation. The good news is obvious: The No. 1 overall pick out of Duke is going to play at some point this season.

The bad news is that a balky knee that plagued the young man over the summer has continued to be a problem, and that has to be worrisome to the Pelicans.

Coming out of Duke, Williamson garnered more hype than any rookie since LeBron James. He’s done nothing but spark that hype with phenomenal play in the preseason.

He has a lot to live up to, and fans everywhere have to be hoping this knee injury is nothing more than a bump in the road for the dynamic big man.
