Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz has developed a reputation for being able to play through pain. He proved that once again in Week 16, coming up clutch for the Eagles against the Dallas Cowboys despite reportedly playing through a cracked rib and lacerated kidney.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Ertz had to be hospitalized after Philadelphia’s Week 16 win over the Cowboys with the lacerated kidney. While he isn’t available today, the team isn’t ruling out a potential return for the first round of the playoffs if they advance with a win today.
It’s remarkable that Ertz was able to return to the game and play through that level of pain. He made his impact felt with four catches and his presence also opened up the offense more for Dallas Goedert to make big plays as well.
It’s concerning that Philadelphia’s medical staff either missed the diagnosis or let him play through it. Fortunately, Ertz will be alright and this news will certainly make him even more beloved by the fans.
