Report: Yu Darvish out for season with stress reaction in elbow

After repeated attempts to return from repeated trouble with his elbow, Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Yu Darvish has reportedly suffered a season-ending setback.

Darvish, who departed in the first inning of a rehab start, was diagnosed with a stress reaction in his right elbow and a triceps strain. As a result, he will reportedly miss the remainder of the 2018 season and any potential postseason run.

It serves as an unfortunate end to a massively disappointing season for the 32-year-old hurler. He made just eight starts this season for the Cubs, his last on May 20, and posted a 4.95 ERA and 1.43 WHIP across 40 innings.

Chicago’s addition of Cole Hamels at the trade deadline helps soften the blow for its rotation, but it remains a major setback for both the club and Darvish.

Signed to a six-year, $126M contract in the offseason, Darvish will now be working exclusively this offseason on just trying to make it back to the mound for the Cubs to start the 2019 season.
