Report: Sonny Gray agrees to extension, traded to Reds

The New York Yankees have reportedly found a suitor for Sonny Gray.

According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Yankees have dealt the veteran right-hander to the Cincinnati Reds.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that as part of the deal, Gray signed an extension with Cincinnati through 2022, with a club option for 2023. His contract was previously set to expire following the 2019 season but is now worth $38 million over four years.

Gray will join a starting rotation that was one of baseball’s worst in 2018. The Reds will hope that he can improve on the 4.90 ERA and 1.496 WHIP that he posted with the Yankees last year. It is worth noting, though, that away from Yankee Stadium, Gray posted a 3.17 ERA and 1.155 WHIP.
