The XFL has become the latest professional sports league to suspend its season over concerns for the spreading coronavirus.
According to The Kansas City Star’s Herbie Teope and XFL NewsHub’s Konnor Fulk, the league decided to suspend the remainder of its season indefinitely. The XFL confirmed in a statement that it is suspending the remainder of its regular season, but it will pay all XFL players their base pay and benefits.
The news comes just days after it was announced that the Seattle Dragons and Los Angeles Wildcats would have to play in an empty stadium to ensure the safety of fans and players.
The XFL reboot launched on Feb.8 and the regular season was supposed to go until April 12. While the XFL playoffs were scheduled from April 18-19 with the XFL Championship Game on April 26, those plans and the season’s conclusion are now unlikely.
Now with MLB, NBA and NHL suspending operations out of concerns for COVID-19, commonly known as the coronavirus, the XFL is taking the necessary precaution in the interest of public safety.

An official statement has not yet been made regarding the XFL’s plans, but the league is reportedly preparing to close operations for the immediate future.
