Report: Without a long-term deal, Khalil Mack skips start of Raiders’ offseason workouts

Khalil Mack

The first official day of the second Jon Gruden era in Oakland wasn’t without a blemish, as star pass rusher Khalil Mack reportedly was a no-show.

Mack is set to play out the final year of his rookie deal after the Raiders picked up his fifth-year option and would make $13.8 million this season without a new deal. That likely has everything to do with his decision to abstain from attending. As noted by Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Mack has the same agent as Trumaine Johnson, who played two years on the franchise tag with the Los Angeles Rams before being signed by the New York Jets in free agency this year.

One of the most dangerous pass rushers in the game today, Mack has been dominant since his rookie season. In four years as a pro, he’s racked up 304 tackles, 40.5 sacks, nine forced fumbles and one interception, which he returned for a touchdown.

The Raiders have stated that signing Mack to a long-term deal is one of their top priorities. Also, it’s been reported that an offer has been extended. But to this point, there’s been no indication that Mack is going to sign said offer, so it’s likely he’s seeking much more than what the Raiders have offered.
