So much for Paul Pierce joining Doc Rivers with the Los Angeles Clippers. A report by ESPN’s Marc Stein suggests that Pierce, a 10-time All-Star, is closing in on a deal with the up-and-coming Washington Wizards.

Pierce averaged 13.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game for the Brooklyn Nets last season. The deal is said to be for two years at the mid-level exception with Pierce possessing an opt-out clause after the 2014-2015 season.
He will likely replace Trevor Ariza, who signed with the Houston Rockets on Saturday, as Washington’s starting small forward. It’s not necessarily an upgrade for the Wizards, but they needed to find a veteran to play the parameter with Bradley Beal and John Wall.
It appears Pierce is that guy.
