With the NBA trade deadline coming up fast, the Golden State Warriors are reportedly still deep in talks with the Minnesota Timberwolves about a potential D’Angelo Russell trade.

Shams Charania of The Athletic reported Monday morning that the Warriors and Timberwolves “remain engaged in trade conversations centered around D’Angelo Russell.”

He added that “there remain obstacles to overcome, but if the teams were to pull off a deal, it could be the closest thing to the kind of blockbuster that often highlights the frantic final days before the deadline.”

The hangup to this point, per Charania, is that the Warriors want “significant draft compensation” as part of any potential trade, and the Timberwolves are having a hard time justifying parting with valuable draft picks as they rebuild.

The Warriors landed Russell as part of the sign-and-trade that sent Kevin Durant to Brooklyn. At the time of the trade, it was widely rumored that Golden State would attempt to parlay that into another trade, sending Russell packing again.

It may not happen ahead of Thursday’s deadline, but it seems clear the Warriors are open to moving the guard for future picks in this lost season.
