Report: Warriors officially add Mike Brown to coaching staff

Mike Brown

The Golden State Warriors coaching staff has gained some valuable experience. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, the Warriors have added Mike Brown to the staff.

Brown has coached 563 games in the NBA, amassing a 346-216 record in the process. He will replace Luke Walton, who is the new Los Angeles Lakers head coach, as Steve Kerr’s top assistant in Oakland.

Having a coach with extensive experience on the bench is certainly a positive for Kerr and the Warriors.

Brown not only has extensive experience as a coach, but also in big games. While coaching the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers, Brown made the playoffs six times, making a trip to the NBA Finals and another to the Eastern Conference Finals.

He’s never failed to get beyond the second round. Given that the Warriors are again likely to be one of the NBA’s best teams, a coach with big game experience should be an asset.

Another added bonus from Brown is the insight he could have against the Cavaliers — Golden State’s opponent in each of the last two NBA Finals. Brown has had two separate stints as Cleveland’s head coach and has worked extensively with both LeBron James and Kyrie Irving in their careers.
