The Virginia Tech Hokies entered the 2018 season excited for what’s to come from quarterback Josh Jackson. Now the football team is left in limbo with Jackson suspended indefinitely.

According to Mike McDaniel of Saturday in College Football, the 20-year-old who played extensively for the Hokies last season is now indefinitely suspended as the university investigates a reported academic issue.

Jackson, who started 13 games last season as a freshman, completed 60.3 percent of his pass attempts and finished his first collegiate season with 2,743 passing yards and 19 passing touchdowns. He also brought a dual-threat into the backfield with four rushing touchdowns last season.

According to The Richmond Times-Dispatch, uncertain clouded his future with the Hokies for awhile. Fred Jackson, Josh’s father and a longtime college assistant coach, wasn’t certain about his son’s future with the team.

“As of right now, Josh is still a member of the Virginia Tech football team,” Fred Jackson said, via The Richmond Times-Dispatch. “We’ll know more in two days. It’s too early to talk about this.”

Now the family and football team knows Jackson’s fate for the immediate future.

For however long Jackson is gone, Virginia Tech will hope either redshirt freshman Hendon Hooker or redshirt junior Ryan Willis can step in and perform.
