A former first-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings, cornerback Xavier Rhodes will hit free agency as he is set to be released by the team.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network shared the breaking news on Friday.

Rhodes was the 25th overall selection of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Florida State. He has been a full-time starter since his rookie season, racking up 10 interceptions, 73 passes defensed and 372 tackles in 104 career games.

There were rumors that this would happen earlier this offseason, so this doesn’t come as a huge surprise.

Prior to this decision, Rhodes was set to enter the third year of a five-year, $70 million contract and would have made $12.9 million. With a dead-cap hit of $4.8 million, the release will save the Vikings $8.1 million.
