The protracted holdout of Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams may finally be coming to an end, with positive news being reported on the eve of the regular season.

DeAngelo Hall, who was Williams’ teammate in Washington, told Erin Hawksworth of The Athletic that Williams could return to the Redskins “sooner rather than later.” Following up on that, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media noted Williams could even be back next week, after the team plays its first regular-season game.

Williams has reportedly in the past said he’d never play for Washington again, upset at the franchise for the way it handled a medical scare during the offseason. However, the team’s brass has made it crystal clear that a trade is not happening, forcing Williams to either report and make his money, or hold out altogether.

At this point, it seems like the prospect of losing money is outweighing any personal issues Williams has with the organization.

If he does return, it’s the best news Washington’s offense has heard all summer long. Williams is a seven-time Pro Bowl left tackle and one of the best in the business today.
