Report: Top 2017 NFL Draft prospect Fabian Moreau has torn pectoral

Fabian Moreau

Considered a top-round pick in the upcoming 2017 NFL Draft, UCLA’s Fabian Moreau was taking part in the program’s pro day on Tuesday. It was an opportunity for the high-rising cornerback to show NFL scouts what he was made of.

Unfortunately, Moreau suffered an injury to the chest area and was forced from the action in Southern California. Now, a couple days after suffering said injury, NFL draft insider Tony Pauline is reporting that Moreau suffered a torn pectoral muscle and underwent surgery on Wednesday.

“Fabian Moreau, the UCLA cornerback that’s been soaring up draft boards, tore a pectoral muscle during his pro day workout on Tuesday then underwent surgery Wednesday night twenty four hours after the injury occured,” Pauline reported.

This is some extremely bad luck for the cornerback. If he had continued to impress during pre-draft workouts, Moreau could have very well landed as a first-round pick. That’s only magnified by the torn Achilles Sidney Jones suffered during the Washington pro day earlier this month (more on that here).

The 6-foot, 206-pound Moreau was a three-year starter for the Bruins. Last season saw him record 31 tackles, eight passes defended and two interceptions en route to becoming one of the top cover guys in the nation.

Moreau is expected to be sidelined four-to-six months, which could put him back on the field by the start of training camp. It remains to be seen what impact this injury might have on his previously skyrocketing draft stock.
