Just two days after Marshall University announced two of its athletes tested positive for the coronavirus, another athlete will now be quarantined due to COVID-19.

Marshall’s athletic department has four positive coronavirus tests

Marshall already started to take steps to isolate the two student-athletes and a university employee who tested positive for the coronavirus earlier this week. Unfortunately, more student-athletes are contracting the virus.

According to The Herald-Dispatch, a third athlete for the Thundering Herd tested positive for COVID-19. At this time, health officials do not believe the cases are related and all four people to test positive for the virus are asymptomatic.

Even more positive tests could be looming with results pending for at least two more student-athletes. Fortunately, all those with the coronavirus or suspected of having it are being kept in isolation and Marshall is sticking to its protocols.

Oklahoma State’s COVID-19 outbreak

Unfortunately, Marshall University isn’t the only program experiencing its own wave of the coronavirus. Oklahoma State University reportedly has five players isolated after testing positive for the coronavirus and we will likely see the issue spread as more student-athletes return to campus.

The NCAA lifted the moratorium on voluntary workouts starting this month, which opened the door for athletes to return to campus. However, schools must first test the players before they can be allowed to use the team’s facilities. As a result, given the spread of the coronavirus across the United States, we will likely see far more players test positive for the virus.

There is still plenty of confidence that college football will be played this fall and the 2020 season will go on. However, was one top conference commissioner warned, disruptions are likely on the horizon and will continue in the fall.
