Report: Texans could show interest in Jay Cutler after the draft

Jay Cutler

With news that Jay Cutler is in fact looking to return to the NFL field this upcoming season, not much has changed as it relates to draft plans for quarterback-needy teams this week.

Though, at least one report suggests that the Houston Texans would show interest in Cutler should they fail to land a quarterback early in the upcoming draft.

Houston has been linked to Cutler since it sent Brock Osweiler packing to the Cleveland Browns in a trade last month. In reality, that’s the only interest the embattled veteran has received after an injury-plagued 2016 campaign that saw him miss all but five games.

Houston currently only has Tom Savage and Brandon Weeden on its roster. Needless to say, head coach Bill O’Brien will be adding a quarterback in the draft. Depending on where that might be and whether it’s in the first round, look for the Texans to show interest in Cutler following the three-day event.

Cutler, 33, has had a disastrous past three seasons. During that span, he’s put up 53 touchdowns compared to 41 turnovers en route to compiling a 12-23 record in 35 starts. Despite this, he’s among the best quarterbacks available on a watered-down free agent market.
