Now that rookie Sam Darnold is likely to be the New York Jets Week 1 starter, questions have come up regarding Teddy Bridgewater’s future with the team.
When Bridgewater signed with the Jets during the spring after missing pretty much the past two seasons to injury, it was noted that he wasn’t guaranteed a roster spot.
But once the former first-round pick showed out big time during offseason activities and training camp, it became clear that he could either ultimately start for the Jets or the team might look to trade him. These rumors have heated up since Darnold emerged as the clear No. 1 quarterback.
Unfortunately for Bridgewater, this one report from NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport indicates that only a backup quarterback market exists for the veteran right now.

While it stands to reason that most teams are locked in to their starting quarterback, there’s some squads out there who remain unsettled. That includes the division-rival Buffalo Bills and potentially the Jacksonville Jaguars.
It’s pretty much too late in the summer for Bridgewater to come in and compete for a starting job.
Short of Jacksonville completely reversing course following more struggles from Blake Bortles, it stands to reason that New York might wait until an injury hits. After all, the team isn’t going to give away a valuable chip like Bridgewater for pennies on the dollar. Rapoport made that clear in his report.
