Report: Teams calling Jets about Sheldon Richardson

Sheldon Richardson

The NFL trade deadline is on Tuesday. And while no big trades have been made up to this point, there are a tremendous amount of rumors floating around.

Most of these rumors have surrounded the Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers engaging in some sort of fire sale as they look to move on from what have been disastrous seasons.

However, another struggling squad may be catching the attention of contending teams out there. According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, the New York Jets are receiving interest in defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that teams are interested in the former first-round pick. It, however, remains to be seen if the Jets are open to moving him.

Richardson, 25, has one more year left on his rookie deal and is set to earn over $8 million in 2017. Playing linebacker at times this season, the former Missouri standout continues to show just how big of a contributor he can be on defense. Richardson has recorded 28 tackles, 1.5 sacks and consistently finds himself pressuring the quarterback.

Any team looking to grab the talented young defender would likely be required to toss a first-round pick the Jets’ way. Of course, that’s dependent on New York actually being open to move him.
