Martavis Bryant has not played in the NFL since he was suspended indefinitely for violating the conditions of his previous reinstatement. Now, he’s trying to get back into the league once again.
Rudy Carpenter of Sirius Radio reported Monday that Bryant has officially applied for reinstatement.
Not the first time Martavis Bryant has applied for reinstatement since he was suspended
Last summer, Bryant applied for reinstatement following his indefinite suspension in December of 2018. Last July, ESPN’s Dan Graziano reported Bryant had been working with the NFL and NFLPA “on steps he needs to take to address his mental health issues with resources such as therapists and ADHD treatments.”
Ultimately, Bryant was not reinstated by the NFL at that time. Now he’s asking for another chance to prove he’s turned his life around.
Martavis Bryant has the ability to put up jaw-dropping stats
When he came out of Clemson in 2014, Bryant was seen as a raw product. That’s why he lasted until the fourth round, when the Pittsburgh Steelers scooped him up with the 118th overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft.
It didn’t take Bryant long to prove he was worth paying attention to. As a rookie in 2014, he appeared in 10 games catching 26 passes for a stunning 549 yards and eight touchdowns. He was the perfect deep-threat receiver for quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who continued to look his way in 2015 when Bryant hauled in 50 passes for 765 yards and six touchdowns.
Unfortunately, the 2015 season also saw Bryant get suspended four games. Then in March of 2016, he was banned for entire season due to another failed drug test.
Since the 2017 season, Bryant has both struggled to stay on the field due to being suspended and to stay productive while on it. In 27 games with the Steelers and Oakland Raiders, he caught 69 passes for 869 yards and just three touchdowns.
