Sergio Garcia reportedly considered paying his outstanding DP World Tour fines in order to play in the upcoming Ryder Cup.

Sources told The Telegraph that the 43-year-old Spaniard made a late bid to join Team Europe by offering to settle his fines totaling about $868,000 USD.

Garcia’s tab includes a fine for resigning from the European tour last year to join LIV Golf.

The newspaper also reported that Garcia offered to play in DP World Tour events this season in order to become eligible for the Ryder Cup roster.

Garcia has the most individual match wins (25) and has scored the most points (28 1/2) in Ryder Cup history. He was 19 when he made his Ryder Cup debut in 1999 and appeared in his 10th competition in 2021.

The Ryder Cup takes place from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1 at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club outside of Rome, Italy.
