At 66 years old, Seattle Seahawks’ Pete Carroll is the oldest head coach in the NFL. And despite nearly unmatched success in the Pacific Northwest, that could very well play a role in his future with the Seahawks.
Fox Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer reported on Sunday that Carroll is contemplating retiring after the 2017 season.

This is the latest in what have been widespread whispers that Carroll may indeed call it quits following the season.
“There are questions, though remote, as to whether coach Pete Carroll will return,” NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported earlier in the day. “He has privately mused about retirement, similar to aging players every offseason. A source close to Carroll said his focus is only on the next game, not the future, and noted he’s under contract.”
Rapoport went on to indicate that we should expect wholesale changes on the Seahawks’ roster this upcoming offseason and that a rebuild could be in the future. Though, members of the team’s brass firmly believe that Carroll will stick around for said rebuild.
Seattle enters Sunday’s Week 17 action with an opportunity to earn its sixth consecutive playoff appearance under Carroll. Should the team beat Arizona with Atlanta losing to Carolina, that will come to fruition.
At the very least, this is something to definitely keep an eye on.
