The NFL world woke up to some crazy news Thursday morning as New York Jets head coach Adam Gase announced that quarterback Sam Darnold will miss Monday night’s game against the Cleveland Browns with Mononucleosis.

In fact, Darnold is sidelined indefinitely after catching the disease at some point recently.

Further reports indicate that the second-year quarterback will be “quarantined” in his apartment until it’s deemed safe for him to be around his teammates. Darnold has already lost five pounds.

This is some troubling information right here. It’s about the most random injury report we’ve seen around the NFL in some time.

Recovery time for mono can range anywhere between 2-to-4 weeks. New York has a Week 4 bye, so the hope is that Darnold will miss just two games. Until he returns, veteran Trevor Siemian will be under center in Jersey.
