The New York Jets are reportedly planning to give rookie quarterback Sam Darnold plenty of airtime in Friday evening’s game against the New York Giants.
According to ESPN’s Josina Anderson, Darnold will be featured for “at least a half” before quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will see time under center.
Expect #Jets QB Sam Darnold to start tonight against the #Giants for at least a half, similar to what NYJ did w/ QB Christian Hackenberg in the 2nd & 3rd preseason games last yr. Teddy Bridgewater’s work will flow from there. All 3 QBs are still in contention to start, I’m told.

This is Darnold’s opportunity to shine as he continues to compete with both Bridgewater and veteran Josh McCown for the starting job.
So far what we have seen from Darnold has been pretty impressive. The youngster has completed 21-of-29 (72.4 percent) of his passing attempts for 158 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
Soon enough, Darnold will take the field in this very important dress rehearsal, as Week 3 of the preseason is considered in the NFL.
