Report: Saints sign linebacker Manti Te’o

Manti Te'o is one of many veterans who could be cut during training camp

The New Orleans Saints have reportedly signed linebacker Manti Te’o, who has yet to play for any team so far in the 2019 season.

Sean Fazende of Fox 8 in New Orleans reported on the transaction Tuesday:

Te’o last played in the NFL last season, appearing in five games for the Saints and tallying 18 tackles.

The former second-round pick out of Notre Dame is best known for being the victim of a catfishing scheme ahead of the 2013 NFL Draft.

He was a star for the Fighting Irish but saw his draft stock take a hit during that spring. Ultimately, he was selected by the Chargers, for whom he played in 38 games over four seasons.

Te’o revitalized his career in 2017 with the Saints, when he tallied 62 tackles appearing in all 16 games.
