The Philadelphia Eagles and free agent running back Ryan Mathews reportedly came to terms on a three-year deal on Wednesday. However, according to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport, a contract has not actually been signed.
With free agent running back DeMarco Murray reportedly signing with the Eagles, the deal between Mathews and the team may be put on hold or squashed altogether.
Even though Mathews has agreed to a deal and is taking a physical, nothing is actually final until it is ink. Rapoport has also said that the Oakland Raiders have “always been high” on Mathews and they certainly could use a running back.
As it relates to Murray, he hasn’t officially signed on the dotted line in Philadelphia. As we have seen throughout free agency this week, things can change in the beat of a heart.
For now it is a game of waiting for Mathews to see what develops throughout the day. However, it’s hard to imagine him actually agreeing to go to Philadelphia with Murray slated to join the team.
