Report: Ricky Rubio, Timberwolves ready to move on

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Ricky Rubio has been on the trade block for some time now. Even after a career-best performance this past regular season, it doesn’t look like that’s changed.

In discussing players that could be moved during the draft, Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders indicates that both Rubio and the Wolves are looking forward to their relationship ending this summer.

“The worst-kept secret in the NBA is that the Timberwolves are ready to move on from guard Ricky Rubio, and it seems that Rubio may feel the same way,” Kyler reported.

This isn’t too much of a surprise, especially considering Minnesota is said to be interested in impending free agent Derrick Rose. The team also has 2016 first-round pick Kris Dunn on its roster.

Despite his limitations from a shooting standpoint, Rubio can run an offense. He averaged an absurd 9.1 assists per game for Minnesota in 2016-17. Should Rubio actually be traded, there will likely be a solid market for his services. If so, it will net Minnesota another solid asset to go with the young tandem of Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns.
