The Washington Redskins are reportedly set to move on from recently absent general manager Scot McCloughan and have been looking other at options for some time.
“According to numerous league sources, and several who have been in contact with Allen and/or the owner, the team’s brass has been entertaining new options for general manager for quite some time,” wrote Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. “They have had internal discussions about the next GM, and essentially have begun the process. The name of former Tampa GM Mark Dominik, who worked previously with Allen, has surfaced, though I’m not sure they go in that direction.”
McCloughan has not been a part of what Washington is doing this offseason. He has reportedly been banned from speaking with the media and was not present at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis last weekend. The team said he wasn’t at the combine because of a death in the family — his 100-year-old grandmother had died three weeks prior.
There have been rumors and speculation about exactly what is going on with McCloughan, but nothing has been confirmed. The only thing anyone outside the organization knows at this time is that he’s not around.
We won’t speculate about the reason why. It does stand to reason, however, that the franchise would be weighing its options since it is obvious there is something going on that is keeping McCloughan from being a part of the organization’s planning and preparation for the upcoming season.
